Representatives from AAK and KLK gathered in Pasir Gudang, Malaysia, on August 13 to mark the start of construction for a new specialty palm fractions plant through their joint venture, Nura Specialty Oils and Fats. The plant is expected to strengthen AAK's access to sustainable, high-purity feedstock used in cocoa butter equivalents.
Once operational, the plant will broaden AAK's supply base and further strengthen upstream integration. Nura will complement AAK's long-standing supplier partnerships in the region, helping secure supply chain resilience while supporting the long-term profitable growth of our Chocolate & Confectionery Fats business.
“Project Nura connects the strengths of two companies from different parts of the value chain. For AAK, it brings us closer to the source and strengthens our ability to manage priorities across the supply chain, from sustainability and quality to traceability and control over contaminants,” says Ernesto Zamudio, AAK's Global Sourcing, Trading & Sustainability Director.
The plant is expected to begin ramping up operations in 2028, with full production planned for 2029.
